I've been here quite a few times in the past 6 months and have been very pleased with the friendly waitstaff, excellent adult beverages, and food. The food is delicious and nicely presented. Because it's so good, I'm never afraid to try something new. I've had many items on their "cooked" sushi menu (I won't eat raw anything) and it's been delicious. My first Saki was from here! The Polka Dot Riesling is awesome as well as the martinis! And it goes without saying, it's about time a beautifully decorated, upscale restaurant moves into N. Smithfield -- and even better -- a Japanese one! This place could easily be picked up and dropped in Providence and fit right in with its upscale competitors. It's just great to know, you don't have to go into Providence to get such an upscale meal.

Visited as a party of 4 for hibachi on a weeknight . Did not have to wait long for the table to fill up. The chef came out about 5 minutes after we were seated. He was very amicable and generous with the sake that night! As a treat, I got steak and scallops. The steak was good but the texture of the scallops were a little off...I couldn't quite put my finger on it, I'm thinking maybe it was over cooked. But overall, it was delicious, the service was on par, and the drinks plentiful.

The specialty rolls are so good that we ordered a secind round. We got the princess roll and the godzilla and they were crunchy and soft at all the right times. The hibachi was good too. The cook put on a great show and was very attentive as well as accomodating to my mothers food preferences. He even took some empty plates away while the server was busy. He was enthusiastic about his job and very entertaining. The food was well seasoned, the only thing that could have been better was the rice. Although the flavor was perfect, the rice was still a little undercooked and crunchy. The salmon and shrimp were cooked just right though. Our drinks were strong but still tasty and the server was still efficient even though she had 3 other groups she was tending to. I would definitly go back. Good sushi, good food and good service

Long bar. Dark wood. Booths and tables. Decent sized sushi bar. I like it here. Total surprised to find great sushi all the way up in North Smithfield. I had a lunch combo sashimi, sushi, and a roll. Came with miso and I have salad. Good price. Friendly staff. I will be returning.

Good sushi for the area. I like the valentines roll and the 2012 roll. I would also highly recommended the Thai basil beef. Don't let the location fool you, it isn't some cheap strip mall sushi place.

We were out and about and wanted to try a new place so we stopped here for lunch. So very glad we did!! They had the best pad Thai my husband and I had in a long time. We had the beef. My husband also had dumplings for an app and I had spring rolls. Good size portions! We will definitely be back to try out the sushi.

We visited on New Year's Day and it was slow (it was also 2:30pm) the service was spot on - suggestions and good descriptions changed what we would have originally ordered. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed some very fresh, excellently prepared sushi and even brought home some take out. We will definitely be back. They have real Chinese (authentic and American style) that is also fantastic. Definitely put this place on your must try new restaurants list. We usually go to ichigo ichi and haruki, but Yamafuji is giving them some competition.

Great place! Very attentive waitress and great selection of sushi. The current rating does not speak to the quality of the place and I decided to write a review. If you are in the area this place is worth giving it a try!

Very entertaining, very delicious! There is a great bar and it is a fantastic venue for groups.

Great meal, good service but the evening was spoilt when I was informed they would take a 20% cut of the $50 prepaid debit card I wanted to use in partial payment. That's right, my card would only cover $40 of the bill. I didn't take them up on the offer and I didn't make a fuss at the time (it was my birthday dinner) but I'll be in touch with the State AG and Visa and make sure they get investigated.

What a great surprise! My friend and I decided it was time for a "girls night" and she suggested we try Yama Fuji because she has had take-out lunch there a few times and enjoyed it. Since it is located in a plaza in Slatersville, I wasn't sure what to expect. I couldn't believe my eyes when we walked in and it looked like we were in a place on Federal Hill, complete with clean, modern decorations and vibe. We were promptly greeted by a friendly hostess that suggested the dining room (Hibachi was also an option, but had a 30 minute wait). We were seated in a comfortable booth and promptly greeted by our waiter, Eddy. We were in the mood for wine and thought a bottle might be the best way to go. While our waiter was super nice and did a great job, it was quickly apparent he didn't really know wine much. We took a shot at a reasonable bottle of Pinot Noir and he delivered it promptly and served it properly. We had the sashimi appetizer, which was very tasty. I ordered the hibachi dinner with center cut filet mignon. It was cooked to the proper temperature and tasted great. Prior to my entree's delivery, I was served miso soup and salad. The miso was delicious and the salad was uneventful (but had yummy ginger dressing). My friend had a seafood dish from the dinner menu and said it was good as well. Prior to my departure, I visited the ladies room, which was clean and well appointed. I was a bit envious of the diners in the hibachi section when I saw the great time they were having. Probably one of the liveliest hibachi dining rooms I have witnessed. I think I will be retrning shortly to experience it first-hand!

Everytime I go here, it is packed! I usually get takeout, and have been really impressed lately! Got the seafood udon noodle dish, sexy salmon, and the fried pork roles- all delicious! They get you in and out of there fast if you are picking up. Definitely convenient to have right down the street!

With a surprising elegant and upscale ambiance, the hubby and I decided to check out their lunch specials one Autumn afternoon. Having had received their menu in our mailbox the day before, the extensive range of entrees and too-good-to-be-true prices gave us a reason to make the quick 5-minute trip outside of the Woonie Bin. Lovely decor and an attentive waitress as soon as we arrived, I opted for their beef tataki and beef negimaki while the hubby went for the squid platter and teriyaki steak. The appetizers came out first in a reasonable time: the beef tataki was amazingly tender, delicious and cooked to perfection. (For those unsure of what this is, authentic tataki is a method of grilling meat very briefly so that the finished product is for all accounts, nearly raw.) Sprinkled with onion and tobiko (-real- tobiko: teeny tiny and slightly crunchy), the meat was presented with a healthy douse of ponzu. Absolutely delicious. While I was almost skeptical to order this (for food safety concerns I rarely order it out), I'm totally glad I did. The beef negimaki was also delicious, tender and the rice, perfectly cooked. The hubby was also impressed and devoured his steak. Despite the lovely decor, it was a little bit of a surreal experience sitting near the bar. Loud, slightly bizarre conversations between a group of locals gettin' their booze on. Okay-doki then. Overall, a nice experience. The total bill clocked in at under $25 and the food was definitely above average. I'll definitely visit again!

Eat here at least once a week. The food is very good and reasonably priced. Joey Lee makes a killer drink and Christine's service is unbeatable.

I have to make a statement before I start my review. This is not one of my favorite restaurants, but it really is decent and the prices are very reasonable. I am reading reviews and I don't understand what the people are talking about. Apps are 5-7 bucks and sushi rolls are 6 bucks. No offense people, but that isn't expensive. They do full Hibachi lunch for 11 bucks, how is that expensive? By the way, when you go to a restaurant the FIRST week it's open, the service is always going to be a little off, they have to get a gauge on volume for staffing and food line procedure. Pros: Affordable Nice decor Friendly Service Variety Cons: Odd food selections Need better Polynesian drink recipes In a town with basically no dining options this is breath of fresh air. It's Asian Fusion, not a Chinese restaurant, so don't expect to get the best greasy Chinese restaurant classics here. If you like Carpaccio try the steak tataki it is great. I think the owners are trying to do everything right here and give a little variety to a town that only eats fish and chips, burgers, and pizza. Try it out, I think you'll like it. Thanks

We arrived for dinner with a large party & quickly were greeted by the bartender and ordered drinks prior to being seated. She started our party off right! We decided to dine hibachi to make it easier on the parents! The hibachi chef really put on a great show for the kids. Such a great time! We enjoyed eating peacefully while the kids were entertained. Better than Benihana, thank you for enjoying what you do! The sushi was great as well. Several of us just wanted sushi, and some ordered entrees from the menu. Everything was great. The manager even brought all the kids dessert. Fabulous service, great drinks, great food!

This restuarant was awesome when it first opened. I couldn't wait to go back. After a couple of more visits the food portions seemed to have shrunk and the service has slipped. I waited at the bar for the bartender to finish her 20 minute conversation without a hello or smile. I don't mind waiting when you have a busy bar but there were only 4 people at the bar and no one approached me,. Although the food is good I think they may need to re-energize the place and kick the food and service up a notch.

Back in my hometown for the weekend and it was the first time eating here - it's fairly new. I thought the waitstaff were very friendly (some of them were joking around with us); the drinks were reasonably priced, they came out fast, as well as the food was - very tasty!

We opted for the dining side on a Wednesday night. We were greeted in a warm manner and escorted to our table. We were given the option of having a window view. My husband and I both ordered from the bar and some soup to start. I went for the mushroom soup, him the miso soup. I ordered the teriyaki scallops and him the teriyaki chicken. The soup wasn't anything to rave about, but it was good. Our main course came before our drinks. We brought this to the waitress's attention and she was very apologetic. I didn't notice because we had soup before. Still though, it's unacceptable. The scallops were not that great, they almost tasted like they were frozen previously. My husband's chicken tasted way better. The teriyaki sauce was very sweet and sticky. I would have preferred if it were a bit more tangy. One thing I was disappointed was that the hibachi menu was not available for the dining side. Most Japanese restaurants offer this and you can order hibachi as carryout so this was a bit disappointing. The restaurant gives off an expensive, high class vibe with the décor, bar setup and the elaborate designed menus. The food was overpriced for the quality and service we received. I doubt I will return. Edit: I have returned and they do offer hibachi on the dining side. Also, the service has been much better since my first experience. I'm glad I gave this restaurant another shot.

I have been to this restaurant twice. Once for dinner and once for lunch. The first time we tried the hibachi side. The chef was fantastic and very interactive, he put on a great show. The food was also great, I got the hibachi chicken and shrimp combo (comes with soup, salad, fried rice, and vegetables. I also tried a spicy tuna roll. It was good but nothing special. Everything was very fast and the service was great. The 2nd time was for lunch and I got one of the lunch deals. I found the meal great but the service was off this time. It took over 30+ minutes for the food to come (when other tables were getting served quickly) and when we talked to the wait staff about what was taking so long they really didn't see anything wrong and the manager had stopped by and made it seem like it was nothing. It is a cool atmosphere inside the restaurant, who knew you could turn an old Blockbuster into that! I found the food great both times and will chalk the poor service the 2nd time up to it being a new restaurant and everyone trying to work the issues out. I will definitely give it another shot and if you are in the area I would recommend you trying it out as well.

The only time I've been there, the bar manager treated the staff like animals. If the food had been good, I probably would have been back. It wasn't that great, so I haven't.

Went there last night for dinner and had an excellent experience. We had the Sushi and Sashimi Bowl for Two. It was very filling and delicious!! All the Sashimi was very fresh. The service was also superb. Must try if you love sushi!!!!

I live down the street from the restaurant and tried it once before and was not impressed. We went back a second time with friends on a Saturday night and have mixed reviews. We were greeted at the door by a young woman who was unsure of where to seat us even though we had a reservation and there were three empty tables. Our waitress was in a huge rush all of the time which took away from the experience. When ever we ordered drinks we had to follow up with an attendant to finally have them delivered to the table. We wished we could have ordered sushi but the wait was over a half hour so we decided against it. The food was good so I would like to give the restaurant more stars but there needs to be more staff to make sure people can order what they want and get it in a timely manner. They would have made so much more money from our table alone if they had another person making sushi and our drinks came on time. I plan on going back to the restaurant again someday I will be sure to update this post if management has addressed these issues..

I have only had sushi here, so I cannot base my review on their hibachi side. The sushi itself is ok. Not horrible, not great, just ok. When I'm craving sushi and don't want to drive all the way to Enn, this is a good option. The spicy salmon roll has always been delicious and I like their tuna and avocado roll, but last time the fish wasn't cut very well and had an inedible membrane right in the middle of the roll that kind of turned me off to the rest of it. I will continue to enjoy relatively inexpensive takeout sushi that's right around the corner.

Went here for the first time, expected a great dining experience but was very disappointed when we sat at the bar and our server was rude, inattentive and had no idea about the menu. She introduced herself as Joey-lee and reassured us that she would take care of our every need. Unfortunately it was not a memorable experience and we will not be returning anytime soon.

We loved Yama Fuji!!! We have dined here a lot over the past year or more. We also have a lot of friends that love it as well. All of us also order take out from here often. Last night we dined out at the restaurant and the bar tender was so mean. She was awful. There was a short wait for a table so we sat at the bar and ordered a drink. While we were deciding what to order we were shocked at how loud the lady at the bar was screaming at the other staff members. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and the amount of disrespect coming out of her loud mouth in a full restaurant was insane. I have a degree in Culinary Arts so I understand how stressful a restaurant can be. There is no excuse for your patrons to have to listen to you yelling at other people. We pay a lot to dine in this restaurant all the time and that is not what we want to hear at all. After a very short wait the hostess came over and told us our table was ready. We asked another server if we could have our bar tab put on our bill. We are not sure if he understood us due to a slight language barrier but he said yes no problem. A language barrier in a restaurant in this cuisine is completely understandable and expected. As soon as we sat at our table the bar tender sent over a bill. That's fine. About 2 minutes later the bar tender came over to tell us what it was in a very disrespectful manner. We couldn't believe what she was doing. We ate our meal which was great. We ordered more drinks that we're getting almost unbearable to drink. They tasted nothing like the first one we had. The bar tender needs to be more consistent with her drinks. Or she needs to go to school as I did and get educated in the food service industry. The bar makes a restaurant a lot of money so she should at least try and make some customers a little bit happy so they will come back and she can still have a job. When we were going pay our bill we were also paying our bar tab. We asked the waitress to pay both bills. We did not ask her to combine them at all, she did that on her own. As we were walking out the door she SCREAMED from across the bar at us "The next time you come in here you need to pay the bar tab before you leave the bar!" There was a full restaurant and an almost full bar. Are you serious lady! That was awful! The entire restaurant was looking at us. This is not the first time this bar tender has been rude to our friends. It's the first encounter we have had with her which is why I am writing this review. So if you would like a pleasant dinner that you are using your hard earned money at I would not suggest going here unless you want to be barked at by this lady and listen to her yell at all of the servers. All through our dinner we could hear her yelling at people. It was not what we wanted to hear. So disappointed!

Small portions of so-so food. Sushi portions were laughably tiny. It was so bad the whole experience just turned into a joke. We couldn't get out of there fast enough and won't be back. I've never felt so robbed by a restaurant in my life.

We went here for the hibachi with a total of 7 people in our party. Although the bill was large around $300 we did have some drinks. This food was just flat out amazing. everything had flavor and you left feeling clean full and not like you just ate at a like a Chinese buffet. Bottom line when everything is cooked in front of you and it tastes so darn good.. It is well worth the money!

First of all, I got terribly sick after I ate from there. Secondly, the waitress has terrible attitude. I regret I alway paid her good tip so much. It is the worst experience in my life for far. I ordered shrimp pad thai, they give me chicken instead and I also get sick. I m going to file a report to sue this restaurant.

I've been here probably about 10 times. I've sat in the dining room 3 times, and at the hibachi the rest. The prices, the quality of service, and overall food quality earn them the rating that I gave them, but they lose a star for a couple of reasons. The drinks are mediocre made with cheap alcohol and cheap fruit juices. Also, the last few times I've sat at the hibachi, my stomach has been upset for the rest of the night. Perhaps it's the combination between the cheap oils and margarine they use to cook the food, the excessive garlic (and I love garlic and use a ton in my own cooking), and the cheap, sugary sauces that have who knows what in it. Who knows? I only tend to get stomach problems when cheap oils and sugars are used in excess, so that's probably the cause. If they could user a bit higher quality oil and sauces, they'd earn the 5th star.

I went here today with the family. It was good. We had the spicy tuna roll for an appetizer which I liked. My daughter had the terriakyi chicken which she enjoyed very much. My udon noodle stir fry with shrimp was very tasty. I would go back again especially for the sushi lunch special.

Great atmosphere and staff. Unfortunately, the food lacks the taste to match those positives and justification of their above average prices for the area. This business is new and has room to improve... Worth a shot.

I went here with my girlfriend on Saturday night at about 9 PM. Unfortunately there isnt much around this area so you have limited options. When we arrived there were only 3 tables in use but the still they put us in a corner next to a table of 10. After being seated we waited about 10 minutes before finally going to the bar and asked for a drink and some service. The manager eventually sent someone over. Another odd observation was that one entree was brought 5+ minutes before the other one arrived. Typically you expect the meals to come out at the same time so you can eat together but apparently this was not the case. The food was good, but the service is poor. I would suggest spending the extra time and go into the city if you want good service and good food.

We went there within a week of their opening, we were excited for new dining options close to home. First, our crab rangoons were under cooked and basically consisted of a raw wonton wrapper with cream cheese filling. gross. We sat in the hibachi room and had the usual show. Our chef was very apologetic because he was only one of two chefs on and the wait was long. No bother. When I refused the sake squirt he made an off color remark. The food was just meh and mediocre. Also it was a bit pricey for substandard fare. We will not return nor would we recommend. There are much better options out there.

Enjoyed a Friday night "Girl's Night" a few weekends ago and a friend of mine suggested we try the new sushi place in North Smithfield. I gotta say, it felt kind of cool to finally have a somewhat "trendy" local dinner option. At first glance, the place is nicely decorated but feels a little small. I soon learn this is because we were seated in the dinner/lounge area and there is another section towards the back reserved for hibachi. I also noticed a sushi bar in the far right corner. We had ample time to skim through the menu before our waitress arrived. We had planned on getting a few mixed drinks but were told we could not order anything other than beer or wine. This was disappointing considering we had wasted time looking at the drink menu. It would also have been nice if our waitress could have explained why. I'm assuming it could have had something to do with the liquor license or bartenders on duty considering the restaurant is still very new, but upsetting nonetheless. Anyway, we were able to get over the lack of alcoholic drinks and each ordered a salad or soup to start. My friend ordered a very unique sweet potato salad that was topped with crunchy, swirly pieces of sweet potato that resembled noodles of some sort. It was unique and very tasty. My wonton soup was ok, nothing to rave about, kind of bland. Once our sushi arrived, I really liked the appearance of mine. I had ordered the valentine roll, it was unique in the fact that it was made without rice (less carbs!) and hey, it was delicious. They served my roll on a square plate and arranged the sushi in heart shapes, how cute! Afterwards a friend of mine ordered the fried ice cream for dessert, I tried a few bites and it was very tasty. All in all a decent dining experience, but you could tell they were still working out some things and it wasn't running perfectly just yet. I plan on trying the takeout tonight, hopefully Yama Fuji still impresses!

The sushi was very good. Nice and fresh. I had the Korean steak special. The steak was cooked perfect but the plating was sloppy and there was too much sauce . I will come back to try some more of the menu.
